Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Advertising campaigns for disease prevention have become a vital tool in public health initiatives, particularly in rural and underserved regions. In Katagum LGA, Bauchi State, such campaigns have been employed to raise awareness about various diseases, promote healthy behaviors, and encourage preventive measures. The use of mass media, such as radio, television, and social media, along with community-based outreach, aims to disseminate vital health information to local populations. According to a study by Olowu et al. (2024), the effectiveness of disease prevention advertising campaigns largely depends on their ability to resonate with the target audience, using culturally appropriate messages and channels. This study explores the effectiveness of these campaigns in Katagum LGA, with a focus on how they influence the community’s health behavior, disease awareness, and prevention practices.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

While disease prevention campaigns have been implemented in Katagum LGA, there is a lack of empirical research on their effectiveness in changing health behaviors and reducing the prevalence of preventable diseases.
